Consulting follow-up should identify the problem discussed and the proposal the client is considering. A discovery call is different from an accepted engagement, and a report downloaded online does not establish project fit. Keep deliverables, delivery format and the next decision visible without treating message activity as proof that a business outcome has been achieved.

The follow-up process

  • Assign discovery and proposal ownership.
  • Record the next action after discussion.
  • Track deliverables and revisions.

Assign the discovery request

Record the broad problem, delivery preference and contact route, with a named response owner. Explain whether the first meeting explores fit or provides a defined paid service. Avoid requesting confidential files before the actual discussion needs them. A generic receipt should not imply the firm has accepted the project or assessed every constraint from a short description.

Confirm the discussion and next action

Separate preferred meeting times from accepted appointments and keep cancellations visible. After the call, record who owns the proposal or further question and what information is needed. Do not use a reminder to imply a complete plan has been supplied when only an introductory conversation occurred. Share necessary material through the agreed private process.

Track deliverables and proposal revisions

Identify the current scope, outputs and responsibilities before asking for a decision. Record revisions and actual acceptance rather than inferring agreement from a document open. Keep deferred projects distinct from declined ones. A past case example should remain tied to its verified context instead of becoming a guarantee that the same result will follow for this client.

Keep project handoffs within agreed scope

Explain who confirms delivery arrangements after engagement acceptance and how changes are recorded. Protect client documents and avoid exposing private business circumstances in public reports. A status message should describe work actually completed or pending, without silently adding a deliverable or making a proposed outcome look like an achieved result before there is evidence.

Request feedback on the actual engagement

Invite an honest account of the consulting service after the defined work, without incentives for posting a review. Google prohibits review incentives. Keep confidential project details out of public replies and published examples. Track accepted engagements and delivered outputs independently of reminders sent; a client’s business results should not be invented as evidence of follow-up performance.
